The Purpose

The turning point came for me when God showed me that I am not simply a result of my biology. I have a say in how my life turns out, that I can work on myself and improve my life. This is the purpose of this website. I want to show others what that looks like. How to make steps in the right direction to create a better tomorrow for yourself.

In my business I failed to realize that success wasn’t in the idea. It was in the people. Success follows people. Some success is inherent to the individual but, people who succeed in many different areas have certain attitudes, things that guide them through anything they do in their life. My goal is to study and learn from those people.

Part of being successful – in my mind – is being happy with your life. I spent all this time working on external things to make myself happy; working on having a successful business, working on being the best, working on being a people-pleaser. The truth is that happiness comes from the inside.

Now, here is the bad news. It takes work. Hard work. It does not happen overnight. It takes time. You have to be dedicated; but, in the end it is worth it. The first time you do something is the hardest. Every time after that it becomes easier. Let this be the day that you decide to do something about your life rather than just accept it as it is.

Part of the growing process is failure. The point isn’t that we should never fail. Failure is inevitable. The point is to develop the person who gets back up after failure. This is one of my favorite quotes on the subject: “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” – Hellen Keller.

There are a bunch of websites out there that explain theories on how to improve your life. I want this website to be where the rubber meets the road. Not just theory, but real life experience. I also expect that some of you will want to contribute to the narrative and share your personal experiences as well.

If you take away a concept from this website then go out and use it, make a comment about your success or failure. Share your journey with us. I really do want to hear about your story. If you read something and it is useful information then share the link with your friends.

I invite you on this journey. Let this be the day you decide to improve your life. Remember that the first step is the hardest and it only gets easier from there.

If you have any ideas for topics or ways  to improve this website then let me know. There is a contact page for sending in any thoughts you have. I would love to hear from you!

  1. I love this concept!! I have been intrigued by your journal entries and will continue to follow – I'm actually starting a journey of my own – I began the practice of yoga about 3 months ago to clear my mind because I wasn't happy inside – it has helped in so many ways and now I'm setting individual goals for myself to feel accomplished – I'm starting to train for a half-marathon in November! Like you – I too began going to church which has helped me see my importance in the world and that no matter what you are loved. My husband has been a huge inspiration and cheerleader to get me to where I want to be in life. With my new adventures and look on life I am happy now and will continue to be as long as I love myself for who I am and appreciate those who show support and love back. I'm going to be honest – I never really talked to you in high school because I thought you were just all about computers but then seeing you at the reunion – you had completely changed – it's so glad to hear you are seeing how important you are and that you are seeking ways to improve your life – I hope others are reading this so they can see how they really can change things for themselves. Thank you so much for sharing Dustin!!

    • Thanks for the kind words Nicole. I appreciate your support. Sometimes its hard to motivate yourself to get out of the rut you're in and my hope is that this blog will motivate people to strive for a better life. I know I spent way to much time thinking that I can't change and feeding the excuse to myself that I am the way I am and there is nothing that I can do about it. It sounds like you are already on the right path. At some point I will have an article on exercise and how it makes you feel better about yourself. It was a huge change in my life that has been well worth it.
